Are you looking for PTFE venting material?
PTFE venting materials have had a big impact on the product marketplace. Many industries benefit from the inherent properties of a PTFE membrane filter, including automotive, medical, industrial and even the mining industry. This microfiltration membrane can be leveraged for its hydrophobic or oleophobic properties. In the automotive industry, headlamps require outgassing capabilities to create a breathable headlamp chamber that ensures no condensation on the interior of the housing. A hydrophobic PTFE membrane filter is perfect for this type of environment because it allows air to flow through which depressurizes the chamber while still repelling water.
Automotive parts manufacturers also rely on its oleophobic properties. While oil is used to keep an engine running properly, there are areas where they do not want oil to contaminate. Having a PTFE membrane filter ensures the proper environment is maintained.
An Oleophobic or Hydrophobic PTFE Membrane Filter Explained
Check out this video on the hydrobic and oleophobic properties of CARCOR’s incredibly versatile PTFE venting material.
Gasket Engineering works as one of the very few CLARCOR preferred PTFE venting material converters that supply intricate parts for the mining industry, which requires critical, life-saving gas detection systems. Those detectors rely on a microfiltration membrane to create a highly engineered part for its sophisticated sensors (check out how we helped our customer solve their problem by clicking here).
Gasket Engineering converts a wide range of PTFE membrane and laminate products from CLARCOR’s aspire® product line. This microfiltration membrane is designed for high purity applications where consistent airflow, excellent retention and chemical resistance is required.
CLARCOR’s aspire® microfiltration materials allow airflow that exceeds automotive manufacturing requirements yet still provides a level of environmental protection needed to ensure long-term performance of critical components with its patented oleophobic chemistry.
These PTFE venting products, whether a hydrophobic ptfe membrane filter or one with oleophobic properties, allow effective ptfe venting to manage differential pressure, prevent leakage or contamination and allow a high level of airflow while resisting water or oil as necessary.
Not All Converters Can Handle This Material
The difficulty for PTFE membrane filter manufacturers in working with these with this material is in its handling. The membrane CLARCOR sells can be challenging to handle (imagine trying to handle a large sheet of Saran Wrap® without getting it tangled), and that’s why the company partnered with Gasket Engineering. We have experience:
- Cutting challenging materials
- Determining the best low tack liners to use with the microfiltration membrane for ease of application Advising on the optimal way to bond to help the material bond with other materials
Here are some of the advantages of a microfiltration membrane:
- Prevents leakage
- Allows a high level of airflow (even after liquid contact)
- Prevents contamination and maintains environmental purity
- Is safe to use with most chemicals
- Resists low surface tension substances
- Integrates easily into most manufacturing processes
